Why Choose SEWTECH Tear Away Stabilizer?

No measuring or cutting: Every 9"x9" (228x228 mm) sheet arrives pre-cut and ready to hoop.
Firm, consistent stitching support: The 2.0 oz medium-weight backing helps control fabric movement and reduce puckering, pulling and distortion while embroidering.
Designed for easy removal: Once stitching is complete, the excess backing can be carefully torn away without trimming it with scissors.
Suitable for everyday and production use: The 100-sheet pack is practical for beginners, home embroiderers, custom apparel shops and repeat embroidery jobs.
Flexible support for different designs: Use one layer for many standard projects or add another layer when the fabric and stitch density require more support.
Thoughtfully made: The product is labeled formaldehyde-free, acid-free and skin-friendly.

Pre-Cut for a Faster Embroidery Workflow

Each sheet measures 9" x 9" (228 x 228 mm), giving you a consistent piece of backing without the measuring, cutting and leftover scraps associated with stabilizer rolls.

The sheets are designed for compatible 5" x 7" and 5.1" x 5.1" embroidery hoops. Because the outside dimensions of hoops vary by machine and manufacturer, check the coverage before stitching. The backing should extend approximately 1.2–2" (3–5 cm) beyond the embroidery area on every side.

Support Cleaner, More Consistent Embroidery

Stabilizer creates a temporary foundation underneath the fabric while the machine forms thousands of stitches. SEWTECH 2.0 oz tear-away backing helps keep stable fabrics smooth and controlled, supporting sharper outlines, improved registration and fewer unwanted ripples around the design.

It is a dependable option for many medium-density designs on firmly woven materials. For especially dense or complex embroidery, test the design first and add a second layer if necessary.

Easy Tear-Away Removal

After embroidery, support the stitched area with one hand and gently tear away the excess backing with the other. This removes most of the temporary support while helping protect the shape of the finished design.

If multiple layers were used, remove them one at a time. Work from the outside edge toward the embroidery and avoid pulling directly against the stitches.

Recommended for Stable Woven Fabrics

Tear-away stabilizer works best on firm, non-stretch materials that only require temporary support during stitching.

Denim, twill and canvas
Oxford cloth and stable shirting fabrics
Heavy cotton and firmly woven cotton blends
Tote bags, canvas bags and backpack panels
Caps and structured accessories
Woven jacket panels
Quilt blocks, appliqué and monogram projects
Bathrobes, blankets and terry towels
Stable leather or vinyl projects after sample testing

Important: Tear-away backing is intended primarily for stable, non-stretch fabrics. For T-shirts, knitwear, sweatshirts, activewear and other stretchy fabrics, use a suitable cut-away stabilizer that remains behind the stitches for permanent support.

Three Simple Steps

Hoop: Place one stabilizer sheet underneath the fabric. Hoop both layers together, keeping them flat, smooth and taut without stretching the fabric.
Embroider: Stitch the design using the appropriate needle, thread and machine settings for your project.
Remove: Take the project out of the hoop, support the embroidery and carefully tear away the excess backing.

Helpful Tips for Better Results

Test the fabric, design and stabilizer combination on a sample first.
Keep the fabric and backing flat in the hoop without overstretching either layer.
Use an additional layer when extra support is needed for a denser design.
Remove multiple backing layers separately rather than tearing them all at once.
For terry towels or other fabrics with a raised pile, place a suitable water-soluble topping above the fabric to keep stitches from sinking.
If puckering continues, review hoop tension, digitizing, stitch density and stabilizer choice before adding more backing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this stabilizer adhesive or iron-on?

No adhesive or fusible feature is specified for this product. Position the stabilizer underneath the fabric and hoop both layers together.

Can I use it with a 5" x 7" embroidery hoop?

Yes. The 9" x 9" pre-cut sheet provides generous coverage for commonly used 5" x 7" embroidery areas.

Can it be used with a 10" x 10" hoop?

It is not compatible with 10" x 10" hoops. Outer hoop dimensions differ by manufacturer, so confirm that the sheet completely covers the embroidery area before stitching.

How many layers should I use?

One layer is suitable for many standard projects. Denser designs or heavier materials may require a second layer. Always test the combination before beginning production.

Can I use it on T-shirts or stretchy fabric?

Tear-away backing is intended primarily for stable fabrics. Use cut-away backing for T-shirts, knits, activewear and other materials that stretch or require permanent support.
